Eland Hall North Farm

There looks have been two separate commercial farming entities next to Eland Hall at least from the first half of the 19th century. Greenwood’s Map of 1828 shows two distinct sets of buildings occupying the footprint of Eland Hall Farm and Eland Hall Farm North. Also the censuses starting in 1841 usually show two separate farming households at the Eland Hall site but the two farms are not separately named until the 1891 census, when the name Eland Hall N. Farm appears for the first time when it is occupied by George Stobert. His son took over the farm when his father died in 1904 and is still shown living there in 1911, when the farmhouse is described as having 6 rooms. He lived here until the 1930’s.

The next mention of the Eland Hall North Farm in local newspapers does not occur until 1975 when Farmer Turner Ditchburn who was said to have lived there for 13 years sold up to emigrate with his family to New Zealand. The farm was offered for sale and was described as a compact farm extending to 146 acres. It comprised of a 3-bedroomed farmhouse with 2 reception rooms, a farm cottage and a range of buildings.

It was then purchased by the Meeks family who owned the neighbouring farm and had disposed of much of their existing land for the golf club and for housing. The redundant outbuildings have subsequently been converted into cottages.
