The main established small-animal practice serving the area, based at Dobbies on the edge of Ponteland. The location works surprisingly well in practice: free parking right outside, and the garden centre café for the humans while you wait.
Opening hours: Monday to Friday 8.30am to 6pm, with a late night on Tuesday until 7pm. Saturday 8.30am to 12 noon.
Services: Routine check-ups, vaccinations, dentistry, diagnostics, soft tissue surgery, cardiology, internal medicine and dermatology. That breadth matters, because it means most conditions get handled locally without a referral trip into Newcastle.
Emergency cover: 24-hour emergency cover is available. Call the usual practice number outside opening hours and you will be transferred to the emergency line. Save the number in your phone now rather than searching for it at 2am.

A newer, warmly reviewed practice in Ponteland village centre. River Vets prides itself on continuity: you see the same in-house vet, who has full access to your pet's history. For anxious animals, and anxious owners, seeing a familiar face every visit makes a genuine difference, and it is one of the most common reasons local pet owners recommend the practice.

Out-of-Hours and Critical Care
If you need emergency care that your registered practice cannot immediately handle, two dedicated 24-hour services cover the region:

Both are roughly 20 to 25 minutes from the estate. In a genuine emergency, always phone ahead. The team can prepare for your arrival and advise you on the journey, and in some situations that phone call meaningfully improves the outcome.

Register before you need to. Practices need your pet's history from your previous vet, and transfers take a few days. An unregistered pet with a sudden problem means delays at the worst possible moment.
Update the microchip. A legal requirement for dogs, and since June 2024 for cats too. Moving house without updating the chip database is one of the most common reasons lost pets take longer to come home. Contact your chip database (usually Petlog or Identibase) with your new NE20 address.
Check your pet insurance. Tell your insurer you have moved. Postcode affects premiums, and an out-of-date address can complicate a claim.
Ask about health plans. Both local practices can advise on wellness or health plans that spread the cost of routine care such as vaccinations, flea and worm treatment across monthly payments. For multi-pet households these usually work out cheaper than paying per visit.
Know your walking environment.
