Pont River Cleanup

Degraded state of the River Pont

River Pont

Overview

We've had a really positive response from Tyne Rivers Trust after reaching out for advice on organising a community clean-up of the River Pont.

Not only are they supportive of the idea, but they're potentially able to offer far more help than we originally anticipated. πŸ™Œ Their team can assist with removing litter from the river and banks πŸ—‘οΈ, help manage overgrown vegetation where it's affecting access πŸŒ±βœ‚οΈ, provide tools and PPE for volunteers 🦺🧀, carry out risk assessments, and ensure everything is done safely and responsibly. Oh and they mentioned that they can bring the biscuits too!

They've offered to visit the site with us and help assess the area before co-organising a volunteer task day. Their expertise will be invaluable in making sure any work benefits both the community and the river environment. 🦦🐟🌿

There are a few important considerations to work through, including river safety, wildlife protection and water quality, but it's fantastic to know we might have experienced partners on board.

A huge thank you to Tyne Rivers Trust for their willingness to potentially support this community effort. We'll keep residents updated as plans develop and look forward to sharing details of a volunteer clean-up day in the coming weeks.

We have found a few of the riparian owners and have spoken with regards to permissions, everyone so far has been incredibly helpful and said 'go for it' - we're just nailing down some details on what three words to find their exact boundary ownership.
